I’ve always had an insane passion for technology and the internet. When people ask what my hobby is, I’m not ashamed to go full-geek and admit that I spend most of my time on the internet, discovering new technologies, and the exciting implications they bring. Nothing quite gets me buzzing as to these new discoveries and what potential they hold.

I’m an avid Redditor as well as producthunter. These 2 sites are where I spend the majority of my time when I’m not relaxing to and tuning in to a favourite Twitch stream. (Dota2).

This is a newbies journey

I have only the most basic understanding of programming and mathematics that I think anyone who lives or works in a technological environment might have. However, I think this field is one where the barrier can easily be overcome with minimal learning, or rather, the time that it takes to learn coding and machine learning can reap much higher rewards than most other fields.

I consider myself to be a problem solver at heart.

Solving a problem, generally, is at the root from which nearly every successful business is born. I’ve trained myself over the last few years to really tune in to problems people have. It might be a bit more of a narcissitic approach than most people have, in that I’m actually looking to see if im able to solve the problem on a larger scale, that could bring financial gain.

The reason I mention this is becuase I strongly believe that machine learning is going to be able to solve much larger scale problems faster and easier as technology and algorithms advance. Its applications are so varied and the potential it brings for us to be able advance our knowledge in all fields is staggering. This is why I am obsessed with it. I honestly believe within 5 years the word machine learning (or more likley generalised to AI) will be as frequently made use of in business as the likes of Excel. A computer that can “think” has been the holy grail of technology and although we are not there yet, we are making leaps and bounds in this field and cognitive computing is not as far off as everyone may think.

This not only brings enormous oppurtunities for those in the field but also a sense of security in that the need for someone with the knowledge or technical capabilities within this field is going to grow exponentially in the coming years.

If you feel the same way as I do about this, I welcome you to join my journey as I attempt to learn Python and Machine learning in the following 6 months.
